In most cases, the value of a resume cover letter example is extremely inflated. Ideally, a resume cover letter should be an extremely personalized and customized piece of writing. It is, after all, meant to be a communication from a specific person attempting to convince another specific person to consider the writer for a specific opening at a target company. As a result, the contents of the resume cover letter example are going to be generic and not automatically applicable to the job seeker's specific details from the very start. However, there are some basic ideas that are found in every resume cover letter and a well written resume cover letter example can make these ideas more accessible and understandable to the job seeker. Not just ever resume cover letter example is worth emulating though.

Resume cover letter examples which begin with some sort of generic filler words are one kind of useless example not to follow. "Please find attached resume," for instance is a wasted sentence and contributes nothing to your effort to persuade the hiring manager to consider you for the position. Even worse, resume cover letter examples which are addressed to "To Whom It May Concern" should be discarded immediately. This greeting does nothing more to the reader than announce that you are a job applicant who is uninterested in or incapable of doing the most basic, simple research needed to learn about the target company.

Resume Cover Letter Examples Worth Following

Resume cover letter examples which build a case for why the candidate is experienced and passionate in the practice of solving the kind of business problems the company faces regularly are good examples to follow. So are cover letter examples which quickly and concisely relate achievements and accomplishments in previous jobs. Though you can't use those examples exactly as they are written, they should at least give you a template for what kind of information is the most effective at turning applications into interviews and interviews into jobs.

Even with the greatest resume cover letter example in the world in front of you, you will have to provide the information about yourself and why you are the best person for the job yourself. As you do that, try to remember that your resume cover letter is an example of your thinking, your writing, your personality. Don't try to sound formal and use big words which you would never use in person. Though you don't want to be overly causal, you should come across as natural, clear and professional in your cover letter. A good way to ensure that you don't come across as too uptight is to read the resume cover letter example out loud before you adopt it as your template for writing your own cover letter yourself. It should sound more or less like yourself talking to someone who you want to make a good impression with.
